A delightful video of a man and his rescued bunny rabbit has gone viral on TikTok with over 650,000 views and 100,000 likes. In the video white rabbit can be seen in the middle of a wet road, with the text reading: "Videos of my rabbit every month from the day I found him." The proceeding clips show Mr. Phiri the rabbit nibbling on greens and hay, being carried around in a hoodie, taking a nap, doing zoomies, and being taken for walks. The caption reads: "I'm guessing he's a year old."
I’m guessing he’s a year old 🤷🏾♂️
One person commented on the video: "Hey please get a second bunny. I had six and they were so much happier with a second pet." In the wild, European rabbits can live in warrens with up to 20 other rabbits. U.K.-based animal charity the Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (RSPCA) said that rabbits are social animals and like the company of other rabbits.
"When you keep rabbits together, they form a 'pecking order,'" it wrote, "with some animals becoming more dominant than others. Rabbits can develop abnormal behavior and may suffer if you leave them on their own and with nothing to do for long periods, so you should keep your rabbit with at least one other friendly rabbit."
The RSPCA suggests a good combination of rabbits is a male and a neutered female, as neutering reduces the risk of fighting in both sexes, and the possibility of a lot more tiny rabbits running around. It also says that if you must only have one rabbit, that "you must provide them with companionship by interacting with them daily." It would appear from this video that although Mr. Phiri may be an only rabbit, he certainly isn't lacking in attention.
The happy bond delighted TikTok users, with one person commenting: "Your relationship is so beautiful I'm so happy for the both of you." Another wrote: "Poor baby in the street! So good you found& rescued him! He would've been hit or grabbed by a hawk so quick."
Some users tried to guess the age of the rabbit when he was found: "I, personally, wanna say 6-10 months. She is a small bunny, but the features is the first clip look like she just got done fully growing. maybe a Christmas or Easter gift with the family not realizing how much work, money, time, and space rabbits needs. but im no expert." Another guessed "I have a lion head too, I adopted my Lola at 3months and your bunny definitely looks like her when she was 3months. She's now 1 and 2months old😁."
