If there’s one thing about South Africans, they love their food takeaways and each province has its favourite. Young Capetonians constantly ask themselves what’s in a “Kota” that the (North) Gauteng people enjoy while people from other parts of the country will go “What?” when a Capetonian mentions a Gatsby. While we may have our differences when it comes to these foods, we can agree that we all like something from the country’s well-known and (arguably) most-loved food outlet, KFC.
Now, what happens when your favourite food meets your other favourite food to create something tasty, dripping and delicious? This is what the food outlet is bringing to the Canal Walk Shopping Centre from 7 to 17 July.
KFC has announced that it will be expanding its popular Kentucky Town pop-up to the Mother City. Cape Town chicken lovers are in for a treat as they’re promised an exciting new limited-edition menu, new limited-edition winter drip, hot new experiences and more of KFC’s famous sauces.
To recognise the culture and pay homage to the city, the menu will include the limited-edition KFC Gatsby and KFC Chachos (like nachos), Simba crunch Zinger Wings, Kentucky Fried Oreos and a Midnight Mojito.
Marketing director at KFC, Grant Macpherson said they are inviting all loyal chicken lovers in the province to join in and visit the pop-up town this winter.”Kentucky Town is all about celebrating the best of KFC with KFC’s greatest fans. So, this winter the pop-up will bring the heat to fans with an exciting new limited-edition menu, new limited-edition winter drip, hot new experiences and back by popular demand, more of KFC’s famous sauces,” he said.
The food outlet said they will also be introducing new winter gear including limited stock of The Colonel’s Onesie and KFC PJs in addition to long sleeve vests, tracksuit pants, hoodies and winter accessories. All proceeds from the pop-up’s gear will be donated towards the KFC Add Hope initiative to help continue to provide meals to underprivileged children in South Africa.
An online pop-up store will also be up and running so fans can purchase the sauces and a limited number of the new apparel items from 7 July.
